There’s so much to do in Laguna Beach this 4th of July holiday, 2011, that I’d be sitting here night and day writing all about it. I’m choosing a few of my favorite (and more eclectic) ideas in keeping with the “Di’s 5 Things to Do in Laguna Beach This Weekend” theme, but be sure to hit the Visitor’s Bureau on your way into town for a full list of activities. Friends, there’s just nothing like Laguna Beach’s Sawdust Festival anywhere in the world. Begun by a rogue element of Laguna Beach resident artists 45 years ago, the Sawdust has grown up to house more than 200 artists from every make and model of art media you can imagine. For 2011, the Sawdust Festival event runs June 24th – August 28th from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and you’ve just got to get there.
If you’re one of those types who buys socks and coffee makers for people at the holidays, this column is not for you. You’ll have absolutely no interest in going to Laguna Beach’s annual “Winter Fantasy” on the Sawdust Art Festival grounds because you would find WAY too many amazing, creative and one-of-a-kind gift ideas for the people you love.
The Laguna Beach Winter Fantasy Sawdust Festival opens this weekend, Nov. 20, with 170 artists’ booths and all sorts of other stuff (more on that in a minute). It’s only open FOUR weekends, so get this on your calendar …
