t’s another beautiful day in Laguna Beach and the crowds are thick at Aliso Beach to watch “The Vic,” – The Victoria Skimboards World Championship… and what a great contest it’s been. This morning, amidst great swells and hinky waters, 9 heats of Pro Skimboard Men were whittled down to leave just 18 pro skimboarders (men) moving forward to the next round.
The Grandpappy skimboarding event of all skimboarding events – The Victoria Skimboards World Championship of Skimboarding – is happening this weekend in Laguna Beach, July 16th and 17th. pack. Mo Just is currently in 2nd, with fellow pro skimboarders Sammy Stinnett, Brad Domke and Austin Keen separated from Mo’s lead by mere digits.
Victoria Skimboards is throwing a Birthday Bash for Morgan Just on Sun, Oct. 17th, at the White House in Laguna Beach. This all-ages gig (till 9:30 p.m., then it’s 21-and-over only) is also featuring the debut of Vic Skim’s 2010 WCS video “Against the Grain” . . .
Old-timers claim that skimboarding actually started here in Laguna Beach. Whether that’s true or not, we do know that the Orange County-based pros tend to perennially rock the standings internationally. And, for the most part, each season’s race to the top really starts here in Laguna Beach at Vic Skim’s venerable World Championship Skimboard Event at Aliso Creek Beach. It’s on again this Saturday and Sunday, June 19th and 20th, starting at 8:00 a.m.
